Anne Breckenridge Barrett named Associate Vice President for the Arts, Jill McCleary named UAMA Deputy Director
As we continue build UA Arts as a new division and a new focal point for the University, we will make staff adjustments by realigning responsibilities and duties to respond most effectively to this new structure.
Today, I’m pleased to announced two such changes that became effective this week.
Anne Breckenridge Barrett is being promoted to the position of Associate Vice President for the Arts and will serve as a senior member of the Arizona Arts leadership team. Anne will retain her appointment as the Director of the Center for Creative Photography.
In addition to helping to set the strategic vision for Arizona Arts, an important area of focus in Anne’s portfolio will be working closely with the Office for Arts Philanthropy (formerly CFA Development) to create a comprehensive funding plan for UA Arts, to include fundraising through individual and corporate donors, as well as foundations and government granting agencies.
I am also charging Anne will developing a collaborative process to determine the long-term strategic vision of the University of Arizona Museum of Art (UAMA). Anne will work closely with Jill McCleary, currently the Interim Director of the UA Museum of Art. Jill is being promoted into the newly created position of UAMA Deputy Director, and she also will serve as Acting Head of the UAMA during this evaluative period, which I envision lasting approximately one year.
“Under the direction of Vice President for the Arts, Andy Schulz, the university is poised for arts leadership and I am thrilled to be a part of the team that will vision, plan, and realize Arizona Arts goals,” Anne writes. “I have learned many lessons during my work to effect transformative change at the CCP and I am pleased to bring those learnings and the same level of energy and experience to the broader Arizona Arts initiatives.
“My first charge as AVP will be to convene a working group tasked with creating a dynamic direction for the UA Museum of Art that will inform the search for its Director. I look forward to working with Jill McCleary and with all my colleagues during this exciting time for Arizona Arts.”
In her new role at UAMA, Jill will provide oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Museum, including staffing, financial oversight, operational practices and procedures, while managing collaborations with University departments and building partnerships with units in Arizona Arts.
“It is an honor to serve the Museum in this new capacity,” Jill noted. ‘I look forward to continuing to work closely with the UAMA’s excellent staff, volunteers, and supporters as we move forward into this exciting new phase.”
Please join me in congratulating both Anne and Jill for their outstanding efforts thus far in advancing the arts at the UA. I couldn’t be more excited about their contributions to come in their new roles. I believe these promotions are an important step in the direction of fulfilling the University’s strategic goal of making the arts a major focal point on campus, in the community and region, and making Arizona Arts a successful, impactful reality.
