Tannis Gibson named Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Inclusive Excellence, Interim Vice Provost for Leadership and Training

We are welcoming back a familiar face to the College of Fine Arts.

I am pleased to announce that Tannis Gibson has accepted the dual appointments of Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Inclusive Excellence in the College of Fine Arts, and Interim Associate Vice Provost for Leadership and Training in the UA Office of Academic Affairs, effective July 8.

Having previously served as Associate Director of the Fred Fox School of Music, Tannis was Interim Dean of the College of Fine Arts from July 2017 to Aug. 2018. An accomplished performer, Tannis joined the UA faculty as an assistant professor of piano in 2003 and was promoted to professor in 2012.

While on leave during the 2018-19 academic year, Tannis worked with the Provost’s office to develop a program on inclusive leadership, and she has conducted research on the ways in which higher education can leverage neuroscience for applications in leadership.

As Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Inclusive Excellence, Tannis will be responsible for policies and programs across the entire arc of the faculty ‘lifecycle,’ from overseeing faculty search procedures, to advising and mentoring faculty through all career phases. Her aim will be to ensure continuous growth and accomplishment in teaching, research/creative inquiry, and service.

In her role as Interim Vice Provost for Leadership and Training, she will maintain the Faculty Affairs connection with the Inclusive Leadership and Hispanic Fellows programs, assist with best practices on inclusive hiring processes, support on-boarding new faculty and facilitate faculty training.

Tannis’s experiences and expertise make her uniquely qualified serve as the College’s inaugural Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Inclusive Excellence. In addition, her role in Faculty Affairs ensures an effective university-wide advocate for faculty in the arts.

“I have always believed that faculty are at the core of our success as a College and so I’m very excited to return to the CFA Office in this position,” Tannis notes. “I look forward to being part of the CFA team as we build new supportive structures and strive for an inclusive climate for all faculty.”

Sincerely,
