David Taylor’s photographs, multimedia installations, and artist's books examine issues of place, territory, history and politics.  His work has been exhibited in group and solo exhibitions at Harvard University, the Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, The New Mexico Museum of Art and the Nevada Museum of Art. Taylor's work is in the permanent collections of, Fidelity Investments, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Museum of Contemporary Photography and the Museum of New Mexico among others. The New Yorker blog, The New York Times LENS, The Los Angeles Times, Orion Magazine, PREFIX PHOTO, Fraction Magazine and the Mexico/Latin America Edition of Esquire Magazine have all featured his images. Taylor's examination of the U.S. – Mexico border was supported by a fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. His monograph Working the Line was published by Radius Books in 2010 and has received numerous "best book" and design excellence awards. His collaborative work with Marcos Ramírez ERRE was featured in the 2014 biennial exhibition, Unsettled Landscapes, at SITE Santa Fe and a second book, Monuments: 276 Views of the United States – Mexico Border, is copublished by Radius and the Nevada Museum of Art. Recent exhibition venues include the Phoenix Art Museum, the MCA San Diego and the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington DC, Oficina de Proyectos Culturales and the Museum of Fine Arts Houston.

He has been a member of the Society for Photographic Education (SPE) since 1992, served for seven years on the SPE Board of Directors, four years as the Vice Chair of the organization, and was Committee Chair for the 2002 SPE National Conference, Fact or Fiction: Photography and Mediated Experience, held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Taylor joined the faculty of the School of Art in 2013 with over 16 years of teaching experience.
