How to Apply

How do I apply to the University of Arizona?

So, you’re ready to take the next step and apply to the University of Arizona. But … where do you start? What do you need to know about our process, and how long will it take to hear back? Don’t worry, we’ve got all these questions (and more) covered. In this video, Kaila and Steven will guide you through the application process from start to finish.

All Prospective Students

All prospective students must complete an application for admission to the University of Arizona and choose a desired major and alternate major within their application. The College of Fine Arts (CFA) offers both open admission majors and majors that require an additional application. Both degree options appear on the university application.

Open Admission Majors

Students applying to a CFA open admission major(s) will be automatically accepted into their chosen major(s) upon admission to the University of Arizona.

Open Admission Majors

  • Art History (BA)
  • Studio Art (BA)
  • Design Arts & Practice (BA)
  • Music (BA)
  • Theatre Arts (BA)
  • Film & Television (BA – Online)

Majors Requiring an Additional Application

Some majors require an additional application and/or audition to be accepted into the major. The Supplemental Apps tab is where students can access the additional applications required for the majors listed below. The Supplemental Apps tab will be visible in the student’s Future Wildcat page AFTER the university application is submitted.

NOTE: Students applying via the Common or Coalition applications will experience a three-to-six-week delay in their ability to begin additional applications. Please plan accordingly.

Majors Requiring an Additional Application

  • Art & Visual Culture Education – Community Museums (BFA)
  • Art & Visual Culture Education – Teaching (BFA)
  • Art: Studio Art (BFA)
  • Dance (BFA)
  • Film and Television (BA)
  • Music Education (BM)
  • Music Performance (BM)

Student Status while Waiting for Additional Application Decision

Students who have been admitted into the College of Fine Arts but have not yet received a decision about their additional application will be admitted to The University of Arizona under the temporary category of “No Major Selected” in the College of Fine Arts (NMSFAND) until they have a declared major.  Additional application results will be delivered through the student’s Future Wildcat portal. Students not accepted into the major will be moved into the alternate major indicated on their University of Arizona application.

Students who did not meet the additional application deadline listed on the school’s application page will be moved to their alternate major on May 1.

Additional Application Requirements by School

Please check each school’s website for more information on requirements and deadlines for majors requiring an additional application.

Transfer Students

Prospective transfer students should determine course transfers with an academic advisor, not all classes transfer or transfer equally from other institutions. Professional training programs (BFA/BM tracks) may require sequenced classes – please note that these programs may take longer to complete the degree.

Transfers can meet with academic advisors before and during the application/transfer process, except during the priority advising and registration periods in March, April, and October. Schedule an appointment with an advisor from your desired major.
