AZPM Screening and Panel Discussion: ‘The Librarians’

Friday, January 30, 2026
6:30 – 8:30 pm | Room N120 1064 E Lowell St.

Free

In Texas, the Krause List targets 850 books focused on race and LGBTQia+ stories – triggering sweeping book bans across the U.S. at an unprecedented rate. As tensions escalate, librarians connect the dots from heated school and library board meetings nationwide to lay bare the underpinnings of extremism fueling the censorship efforts. Despite facing harassment, threats, and laws aimed at criminalizing their work – the librarians’ rallying cry for freedom to read is a chilling cautionary tale.

A panel discussion will follow this film. Panelists include:

  • Rebecca Ballenger – Associate Director World of Words, College of Education, University of Arizona Kate DeMeester-Lane – Library Services Manager, Pima County Public Library
  • Paula Maez – Public Services, Pima County Library
  • Matthew Landon- Workforce and Economic Development Librarian, Pima County Library

We encourage attendees to bring a new or gently used K–6th grade book to support of the TUSD Educational Enrichment Foundation
