The University of Arizona’s Confluence Center for Creative Inquiry invites the community to a special edition of Charlas con Café featuring the internationally acclaimed Son Jarocho ensemble, Tlen Huicani, in conversation with moderators Adrian Perez and Estevan Hernandez Parra.

Taking place on Friday, October 31, 2025, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Marroney Theater, this vibrant dialogue will explore the deep cultural roots, history, and evolution of Son Jarocho, a traditional musical style from Veracruz, Mexico, known for its poetic improvisation, rhythmic vitality, and community-centered expression.

Through conversation and live musical demonstrations, Tlen Huicani will share insights into the ensemble’s five-decade legacy of preserving and promoting Veracruz’s musical traditions while connecting them to contemporary movements of cultural identity and celebration across borders.

Charlas con Café fosters intimate, cross-disciplinary conversations over coffee, inviting artists, scholars, and community members to engage in meaningful dialogue. This session offers audiences a unique opportunity to experience how Son Jarocho serves as both a vessel of cultural memory and a bridge between Mexico and the borderlands region of Southern Arizona.

Join us for coffee and pastries starting at 11am!
