Meily J. Mendez

An alumna of the University of Arizona, Dr. Mendez has a passion for guiding undergraduate students on their academic journey and, as a musician and piano teacher, is able to provide valuable insights as she mentors students through their degree paths to their future careers.  She earned her Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance with a minor in Music Education/Piano Pedagogy at the University of Arizona, where she studied under the mentorship of pedagogue Dr. Lisa Zdechlik and Steinway Artist, Dr. John Milbauer. Additionally, she has over two decades of experience in piano instruction, is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music accredited by the Music Teachers National Association and chairs the Tucson Music Teachers Association’s Piano Ensemble Committee.

Dr. Mendez believes in a student-centered approach to advising with an emphasis on building meaningful connections and open communication with students, staff, and faculty for the support and enrichment of the undergraduate student body.  By taking the time to understand each student’s unique goals, interests, and challenges, we strive to tailor personalized academic plans that align with the student’s aspirations while maintaining a rich and complex curriculum.  Every driven student can succeed with the right resources and support.
